Anchor was four months old and waiting for his forever home. Mirah was looking for a gray cat companion, but her boyfriend is allergic to cats. Determined not to let this prevent them from adopting, Mirah researched the options, learned what could be done, and applied to adopt a kitten through Central Virginia Regional Rescue, requesting a month’s trial adoption to see if they could make it work. Anchor’s foster, Rebecca, was familiar with cat allergies and willing to help, and we are excited to report that Anchor’s trial adoption turned into a permanent one! Here is Mirah’s story.
“My partner and I had been wanting a kitty, but unfortunately he was allergic! After doing some research, we found that the Purina LiveClear food and shampoo had a high success rate for minimizing allergens at home. After falling in love with Anchor’s pictures on CVRR’s website, we decided to reach out and ask if we could foster him for a 1 month trial period, during which we’d switch him to the allergen food and use the Allergen Shampoo. Graciously CVRR not only agreed, but went above and beyond. They switched Anchor to the allergen food on Dec 19th and we picked him up on Jan 1st! For the first two weeks with Anchor, my partner experienced itchy eyes, a small rash on his neck, and an itch on the roof of his mouth. During this time, we also vacuumed the apartment frequently and gave him dry baths with the Purina LiveClear Allergen Shampoo. Slowly he became accustomed to the allergens as the food took effect. To help with the rashes, he put on Cortizone eczema cream, which helped greatly. As of Jan 31st, his only symptom is that he infrequently experiences itchy eyes. Overall, we are extremely impressed with the experience, which has allowed us to keep Anchor! Thank you CVRR!”
Congratulations to Anchor, Mirah, and Jack for overcoming the challenge of allergies!
