I started volunteering with CVRR in 2016, mostly assisting with the Central Virginia Rescue Rangers.
As an educator in Lynchburg City Schools and Central Virginia Community College this seems to be my niche along with assisting in special events.
My CVRR foster experience lasted about a day before we adopted our newest family member, a lovable, lab mix we named Bear. He is the first dog we ever adopted that wasn’t a puppy. Now that we are empty nesters, we think Bear is our most spoiled dog yet!
Our big stipulation for adopting him was that he had to get along with our two cats. After a couple of days everyone was living together amicably. My friends say the adjective to describe Bear is “gentle”. He never meets a stranger and like me wants everything to run smoothly.
If our cats, Martini and a Turbo are squabbling with each other, Bears runs right in the middle of them. He doesn’t take sides, but he breaks up the fight and the cats scatter.
I met my husband while attending Lynchburg College. We both grew up with pets in the Lynchburg area. The first pet we adopted together was a stray alley cat that showed up in our neighborhood.
As time moved on we had other cats and dogs. Fortunately, we have passed our love of pets to our children. Both had pets living with them in college once they were out of a dorm setting.
Our daughter, Laura, her husband Josh, and cat, Spot Belly are currently fostering puppies in their Chicago home. Our son, Sammy and his roommates have a rescue dog, Niko in their Washington DC apartment.
I am very excited to be part of CVRR —a terrific, energetic group of people who are leaving a wonderful mark on our world.
